Social Climate Change Is In The Station
Environmental climate change is a calamity cause by two prevailing factors -
the economic polemic attack by rightest neo-liberals that perpetual economic growth has replaced cleanliness as the next best thing to godliness, so all profitable endeavors should be pursued without caution, and
that data collected to quantify costs, risks, and long-term harm is tantamount to allowing women, immigrants, the elderly, children, non-Christians, and non-whites into thinking that they are equal to “100% Americans.”
Well, (environmental) climate change has arrived on time and as predicted. Yes, the science in your cell phone does work. Science works.
Even though those same neo-liberals bullied and bribed a small number of scientist to lie on their behalf; and then, claimed that science disagrees …and later science is uncertain …and later science lies… …yet. science was always marching on.
Once they temporarily sidelined cautionary professional science, they could harness their ‘pet pseudo-science’ for profit all while not worrying about the glaring law of physics, “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
All profit has costs. Entropy happens. Waste doesn’t “go away.” The atmosphere is everywhere. Everyone is “down river” of someone else. Products that only kill a few sometimes choose your family too.
Now, Social Climate Change is having its day. “Me too.” “End Racism” end zones in the NFL. Confederate statues are ‘melting down.’ Cop cameras. CRT is in full effect everywhere including the new Speaker of the House. DEI is taking over churches including the Catholic Church. The Southern Baptist Convention admit to starting in a pile of racism. Catholic residency schools are exposed for horrors. The Souther Baptists divide over women pastors. The Indiana Department of Education goes hippie Buddhist.
This social climate change train is moving fast and cannot be stopped.
A new, freer, and more progressive America cannot be stopped in the corporate world, or by Clarence Thomas (affirmative action’s number 1 beneficiary in America), or by a conservative Supreme Court, or by the Koch brothers dead or alive, or by the haters of George Soros, or by Ben Shapiro with any amount of lies that he can tell per minute without any regard to professional research, or by Vivek Ramaswamy’s nitwittery, or by Mom’s for Liberty extremists, or a token “In God We Trust,”, or a silly “under God" in a pledge to a flag (of all things), or a publicly displayed stone of the Ten Commandments written in such short and incomplete phrases as to be worthless, or by trying to stop SEL, or by trying to stop ESG investing.
Two years ago it might have seemed like there was a 50/50 battle. But the balance has forever shifted and the youth will not have anything to do with such a crappy past. The reactionary nostalgists who long for the good old days of religion intolerance, female submission, slavery, inequality, water poisoning, air pollution, corporal punishment, cultural cleansing, patriarchy, parental domination, data blocking, anti-science, and self-imposed ignorance are fading away.
Environmental climate change has many new lessons to teach us, and we have many ecological debts to pay, but social climate change can be a light of hope in a hotter and wetter world with more physical calamity, tragedy, and peril. Maybe as we fight the effects of our past enviro-foolishness, we can be a kinder, gentler, and more open humanity doing it.
